Families & Kids

Family holidays in villas are very popular in Bali & can provide a cost effective alternative to booking multiple rooms in large hotels or resorts but not all villa establishments are "family friendly" . Be sure to look for the "children friendly" icon in your search results for properties on balivillaescapes.com.

The attentive villa staff can provide all meals as required for your hungry horde & may provide supervisory duties of children while parents relax. They may also provide babysitting services for you, for a fee, that can allow you to shop without distraction or sample some of the fantastic Bali nightlife.

Many families enjoy the opportunity a villa holiday allows them in relating on a more intimate social level with the friendly staff that are more often than not very welcoming & love to share their culture with their honoured guests. Children can even find themselves participating in the most menial of tasks with staff, something that they probably wouldn't do at home, while relating & learning about the wonderfully mystical culture of their new Balinese friends.

With that said, you must be aware of a few Balinese "idiosyncrasies"...they enjoy a simple culture & understanding of life. Things that you may instruct your villa staff to do or ask of them may be provided incorrectly. The reason for this is the extremely polite Balinese nature. They believe it would offend you by saying they don't understand what you are telling them so they will simply say "yes, I understand" rather than saying "sorry, I don't understand". It can be a source of frustration to a few people but remember it is not intentional. Your staff were simply being polite in not telling you that they could not understand you. A quick fix to this very Balinese trait is to take the time to show them how to do what you ask & then the problem will rectify itself very quickly. Trust me on this, when you ask for your eggs poached at breakfast & they continually come on the plate fried then take time with the cook to demonstrate how to cook a poached egg ;)

The other important thing is that almost every villa has a pool, plunge pool or spa with no child proof fencing in place. It is not a lawful requirement for villa owners to provide this in Bali so parents of younger children should always remain alert to the potential danger of accidents occurring. Your villa staff are not "pool attendants" & will be busy attending to their daily routines & guests needs. Of course if you asked a staff member to supervise your children they would more than likely do it willingly but they may also suggest a fee for doing so, not unlike babysitting really.

In understanding the above, your family can & will have the most amazing Bali villa holiday experience :)
